Week Three
Hey everyone,
Last week we had a workshop with Cyndi Lauper - she was really amazing. She had some great tips about how to warm up and feel the emotion in the song. I did a song last week that I wasn’t 100% confident with, and I went into the song knowing I wasn’t 100% confident. Considering I didn’t know the song at all before I picked it, I didn’t think vocally it was so bad. Vocally it was a bit shaky and the performance was pretty shabby.
I don’t agree with Kyle’s comment it was a disaster – disaster is when you forget every lyric and screw the melody up. I think that comment was very unfair.
This week we had a workshop with Darren Hayes, the awesome singer from the band Savage Garden. He taught me to really connect with the song and feel what I’m singing. The song that I’m singing this week is about getting chucked down and getting picked up again, so it’s relevant to what happened last week.
Last night we went to a Bobby Flynn gig at the Basement, which was really awesome. I followed him through the show. I thought his musical style was alternate and different, but last night he did something a lot more rocky and reggae which was really cool. I digged it a lot.
Throughout this week I’ve been doing six hours of school a day, which is pretty bummed. I’m dealing with it, but it’s a disadvantage in my eyes. But if I don’t do it I can’t do the competition. Teale and them went bowling the other day and I had to go to school – not cool!
Life in the house is pretty awesome, but I’m kinda finding it hard now that Brooke’s gone to fit in with ‘adults’ – she helped me feel more comfortable with them. I’m not completely with the group at the moment.
I try my best every week. I know I wasn’t good enough last Sunday, and I hope next week it will be.
I want to say hi to Luke West – you’re awesome, shoot for your dreams, mate.
Happy birthday to my little brother for the other day.
Tom
