As we forge ever closer to the massive grand finale, tonight we saw Australian Idol's Final 5 become a Final 6.

Last night's amazing show saw the judge's choose the contestants songs and Natalie, Matt and Carl walk away with Touchdowns from Mark."I thought it was a great night," Marcia said of the show. "I really do and I think the kids were really happy with their performances." She added that she and Kyle commented earlier, looking at the remaining contestants on a single lounge chair.
"We're really getting down to the nitty-gritty when there's only one couch," she said.

And then a look behind-the-scenes at the alleged frictions between the judges in the past week. Dicko was furious about Mark's comments in the media that he was thinking of leaving the show. "I love working on the show," Dicko said. "I'm passionate about this show and I'm here for the duration." Added an as-always sensible Marcia, "We're friends and if we didn't have passion, we wouldn't have a show. And we don't hold grudges." Mark and Dicko even said they didn't want to sit next to each other any more. But shortly there after appeared to make up (as revealed in last night's episode blog). "Despite the fact he's a deranged old fool, I like him," Dicko said.

Andrew and James, with interjections from Dicko, quizzed Matt Corby on how he was dealing with the pressures of being judged every week.  "We're all used to going to gigs for people that want to see us," he said. "So it's hard being under this sort of scrutiny."
He then added, half jokingly; "Me and Carl usually go in the back room and have a cry, he's my support."

Next up the Young Divas hit the stage with their brand new single "Turn Me Loose", wowing the audience with their sultry new look, powerhouse vocals and guest rapper Savage. Kate DeAraugo described new Diva Jessica Mauboy as "Our permanent traveling giggle box." Talk soon turned to wardrobe and Paulini, who was on the receiving end of a very memorable barb from Dicko about a gold dress asked him; "What do you think o me now?"
"Tell me, do they do that in gold?" Dicko asked. "They do," she replied. "I should have worn it!"

That all lead into a look at the week's wardrobe hits and misses – Matt, Tarisai and Natalie were all in the firing line from Kyle. As were wardrobe bosses Sheridan Tyler and Marcello Berezowski. As for comments about Natalie's bum looking big in last night's dress?
"Everyone else thinks she looks fantastic," Sheridan said. "So forget about it."

Then a look at John Foreman and Bobby Flynn trip to Brisbane for the Queensland round of My Mum Rocks. After much deliberation, the talented twosome named Beth Hamiltion winner.

Then it was group performance time with Prince's classic "Kiss", which saw Carl hitting some very impressive high notes, and the Idols dancing with members of the audience.

Finally it was verdict time. The contestants were one by one asked to head over to the stage to stand with Andrew and James. This week, staying artists were sent back to the couch – and Natalie was told she was first to be told she was safe, while Tarisai was told she was in the Bottom 3. When it came to finding out Matt and Carl's fates we were left hanging during the ad break. They are both safe – and jump for joy. Of course this means something else: Marty and Daniel are automatically in the Bottom 3. First to be told they are safe is Marty.

A look at Tarisai and Daniel in the Bottom 3 has Marcia lost for words. Not so Kyle. "May God bless Tarisai tonight," he said. "I don't want you to go, I'm happy for Daniel to go." "In the interest of balance I want Daniel to stay, "Dicko added. "I think the public actually got it right," admitted Mark.

It was ultimately Daniel heard his name read out. Daniel thanked the band, judges and fans for all the support over his time on the show. James pointed out they had helped him kick his addiction to scarves (remember his scarves?). Daniel then closed the show with "Fragile", before the other Idols rushed the stage and lifted him onto their shoulders.

"Daniel has been one of the nicest people we've had in all the five years," Marcia told him.

"I'm going to miss you Kyle," Dicko added. "And the house his really going to miss you."

Farewell Daniel, and best of luck.
