Tonight Natalie Gauci and Matt Corby performed their own interpretations of the Winner's Single "Here I Am" as well as two songs each of their own choosing.
And, as the judgment on the performances is all up to you, tonight our judges stayed silent.
Accept, that is, on newspaper reports that Dicko branded the Idols "boring".
"Here's the thing," Dicko explained, "I don't actually remember saying those things, but it's how I feel, so I must have said it." He went on to say that he wasn't singling out the Final 2 and thought all the Final 12 has been "a bit light on".
The other bit of newspaper gossip had Matt Corby calling the Winner's Single "a dud". Matt explained that he'd been misquoted. "It's a great song," he said.
Trivialities out of the way, it was time for what Australian Idol is really all about: performances.
Matt opened the show with his version of "Here I Am", and in true Matt Corby form does the song proud.
Natalie is next with her choice of "Apologize", the new track for One Republic featuring Timbaland. She admits afterwards to having been a bit thrown by watching the emotional footage of her Idol journey before taking the stage.
Matt's first song of his own choosing is Jamie Cullum's version of Radiohead's "High and Dry". After which he joked, "I just feel sorry for Dicko. He must be bored out of his mind!"
"Sorry?" said Dicko jokingly, as if just waking from a nap.
Natalie returned to the stage with a brilliant rendition of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill". The other ten members of the Final 12 – who are in the audience tonight– go crazy. "Go Natalie!" yells Tarisai.
Matt's last song for the night was Wolfmother's "Mind's Eye". He, for one, seemed delighted by his performance.
"I'm stoked I left on a good note," he said. "So it's all good. Thanks very much everyone."
Andrew and James then announced that the winner would be embarking on The Winner's Journey Tour in January, and would be supported by various members of the Final 12 in different states – which seemed to be (exciting) news to them!
Then Natalie unveiled her version of "Here I Am" in fine style in a sexy red dress soaring vocals.
"It's so weird, but cool," said Natalie of finishing the performance stage of the comp. "I think today was really nerve-wracking, but in a different way to last week. Singing the Winner's Single, there was still pressure … but I'm relieved."
Songs over it was time for Music Director John Foreman to jump in with some words about next week's Grand Final.
"It's going to be an absolute extravaganza as always," he said.
As for the judges?
"I absolutely loved it," Kyle said of the night's performances.
"I liked that song [the Winner's Single], and I liked both versions of it," said Dicko, adding that Nat and Matt both "occupied their own space" with their versions.
Then Mark offered a rather cryptic monologue.
"There are 4.5million Australians in Generation Y," he said. "Be true to your generation and continue asking why."
And now it's up to you. The Idols have performed their final songs of the competition and their fate rests in your hands. Next week the moment we've all been waiting for: the spectacular finale, live from the Sydney Opera House.
Get dialing and may the best Idol win!
