Jacob showed Idol just how diverse he could be, but it was time for him to bow out – and he certainly did it gracefully! Here, he talks about what’s next and never giving up…

sweet_november: Hey Jacob, which theme did you enjoy more, rock or Brit Pop and why?
Jacob_Butler: I'd say rock, because it was more a high energy performance. I really enjoyed running around... like a knob as Dicko would say!

livycutie24: Who were you closest to in the house?
Jacob_Butler: Probably Daniel Mifsud. We got along really well.

Jessimischa: Jacob that was the most humble and beautiful exit of any contestant on Idol ever and I am sure that so many will agree. What was the best part of Idol and who do you want to see win?
Jacob_Butler: Probably getting through to the Final 12 without having to go through Wildcard was pretty memorable. Last night was pretty memorable too.

Roxy-Amy: Who do you want and think is going to win Australian Idol? And I thought you did a great performance on Sunday.
Jacob_Butler: Thanks! I think Matt Corby is going to take it out and I would be happy with that.

IHeartMattCorby: I cried when you sung after the verdict. I thought you sounded amazing and I loved how you hugged and shook hands with the other contestants and the judges. Which was your favourite theme of all?
Jacob_Butler: Probably Brit Pop, because it's what I do! And thank you for the beautiful message.

rmn9478: If you were still in, what song would you sing next week?
Jacob_Butler: ‘Rock the Cashbar’ - The Clash.

livycutie24: What will you do with your music now?
Jacob_Butler: I plan to try and get a record out at some stage in the new year, whether it's on a major label, indie or even if it's independent, I will try to get it out as soon as I can!

Iluvaustralianidol: With one word, how would you describe the Idol experience?
Jacob_Butler: Amazing!

Jaay07: Jacob, would you describe yourself as a passionate person, especially when it comes to music and why?
Jacob_Butler: Absolutely. It's like I'm cursed... I just can't stop thinking about it. It's all I do.

rmn9478: What is your favourite style of music?
Jacob_Butler: Rock, predominantly. Anything with a good ambient sound that's timeless and classy.

alanar9: Hey Jacob, what was your favourite performance in this competition? I know mine was "When You Were Young".
Jacob_Butler: That was my favourite also I think! That jacket that I wore that night was just unbelievable!

Mighty_Penguin: Are you a fan of T-Rex?
Jacob_Butler: Not a huge fan but they're a good band. And Marc Bolan was certainly an influential star of his day. Unfortunately, he was taken away at a very young age.

KYMICHELLE: Jacob, we all know that you'll go far, but we're hoping you wont go far away! Are you planning to stay in Australia?
Jacob_Butler: ABSOLUTELY. I have no desire to move overseas... unless the money is too good to refuse. In which case, I won't be leaving unless my girl comes with me.

CharlieBrown-Idol: Would you consider the fact that you had been in X Factor a help, or a hindrance?
Jacob_Butler: Probably a hindrance, in the sense that perhaps people were sick of looking at me and they maybe wanted to see something new. I don't know. Also, I guess it helped because for some people it was like an old friend had come back.

elisec928461: What has been your fondest memory?
Jacob_Butler: Just the friends that I have made. I've made some great friends.

Harperlee: What’s next Jacob? Will you tour and will you come to Perth? Would love to see you live. Bobby Flynn is coming here in Nov to a pre-booked restaurant gig, would you do the same?
Jacob_Butler: Yeah, of course. My girlfriend is from Perth so it's certainly not out of the question. I hope to get over there for the new year actually, but it will be a holiday at this stage.

IHeartMattCorby: What is your favourite song of all time?
Jacob_Butler: It changes daily... at the moment, ‘Waterloo Sunset’ by The Kinks is probably up there. Anything by Radiohead as well.

sweet_november: Why did you sing Beatles on Brit Pop night? Why not Oasis or did Ben steal it from you?
Jacob_Butler: I'd already done an Oasis song and I guess it was the kind of thing that people were expecting me to do. I wanted to break out of that mould and do something different. I went with the Godfathers of Brit Pop - The Beatles. If you asked Oasis who the godfathers of Brit Pop were, they'd say The Beatles so I went with the latter.

alanar9: Who do you think will be going next week?
Jacob_Butler: I don't know... the competition is so close at the moment that it could just go any way. I think it will be a surprise though.

nessie80: Hey Jacob, what are your plans now?
Jacob_Butler: Right now, to go home, have a shower and go to bed!

Theaustralian: How stressful did you find it to be in the competition?
Jacob_Butler: Very. It is stressful, it's not really a natural environment to sing in. It's quite odd with all the cameras set up. But at the same time, it's very exciting and it's good fun.

Supahsabz: If you had to sing one more song for the viewers on Idol, what song would it be?
Jacob_Butler: Probably ‘Rock the Cashbar’ by the Clash. I was REALLY looking forward to that. But that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Roxy-Amy: Did you get nervous before you performed?
Jacob_Butler: Yes, very much so.

elisec927929: Who was your favourite judge?
Jacob_Butler: I like them all for different reasons. Probably the biggest surprise out of all of them is Kyle. On the outside, he seems like a tough guy, but when you get to know him, he's really likeable and he tells a GREAT story.

sweet_november: What exactly happened in the UK, music-wise?
Jacob_Butler: Just a bad management deal really... it wasn't the right time. I learnt a lot from it and it's certainly nice to come back to Australia and get stuck into things in Melbourne. London's a tough town!

livycutie24: Did the judges say anything to you after the show?
Jacob_Butler: Just keep going and that I have all their support. They were really nice actually - very cool.

OXmillyXO: What will you miss most about being on Idol?
Jacob_Butler: Sam, the House Manager's, cooking! His cooking is fantastic and he's a great guy as well.

Iloveguysebastian: If you could do a duet with anyone, who would it be?
Jacob_Butler: Probably Thom Yorke from Radiohead. I'm not sure if our voices would match very well though, but it would be an experience to work with that moody little bugger.

sweet_november: Did you always know you wanted to be a rock/indie artist or did the UK lead you in that direction?
Jacob_Butler: I've always liked English sounds - I've always been a big fan of that kind of music. It's funny - you go over there and see bands in clubs and stuff and the quality overall is not as good as it is over here. But there's bound to be oodles of talent exploding out of bedrooms with the amount of people there. There are little Johnny Greenwood's all over the place - because it's so cold, they're all in their bedrooms practicising. It's unbelievable!

IHeartMattCorby: Did you agree with everything that the judges told you?
Jacob_Butler: Yes and no... most of the time it was reasonably valid, but sometimes they would try for a line that was a bit, you know. Most of the time, you just grin and bear it. I did sort of cop flak from them a couple of times but it comes with the territory of being a contestant on Australian Idol!

georgie00: Haii Jacob, do you think your life has changed heaps because of Idol?
Jacob_Butler: Yes and no... I tend to go about my business as normal and I don't seem to get hassled too much. Unlike Marty and Matt Corby, they get photographed all the time. I think if you go about day to day bits and pieces like normal, you'll be alright. Besides, I'd rather be rich than famous.

Jaay07: Jacob do you have any plans to tour around Australia?
Jacob_Butler: Yeah, if we can get the record out. I have a pretty good band waiting in the wings, ready to go. All going well, we'll hopefully get out there on the road soon!

Harperlee: Hope you’re feeling the love in this room Jacob, ‘cause we are all huge fans wanting to buy your music. Please tell us you won’t give up.
Jacob_Butler: I won't give up! Although, sometimes, it feels as though it would be easier to.

donnaandnikki: If you could have the Australian Idol experience again, would you do it all over again?
Jacob_Butler: I would, yeah. I think it's hopefully opened some doors up for me that weren't open before. I think the best thing about Australian Idol is that now that I've done it, people are actually going to return my phone calls. That's a huge bridge to cross. Maybe the people that I rang a year ago will actually pick up the phone and call me back.

IHeartMattCorby: What is one thing you have learnt from this experience?
Jacob_Butler: I've learnt to let go of old ideas - ideas that can hold you back from achieving things. I've learnt to take on people's advice, especially from a production point of view. You can learn so much from different people and I already feel like I have over the last couple of months.

KYMICHELLE: Hi Jacob, who is your greatest inspiration and why?
Jacob_Butler: That's a hard one, because I get inspired by many different things and people. I don't think there's a single thing... lots of different things swing through my head at different times.

rmn9478: What is your favourite TV show?
Jacob_Butler: The Mighty Boosh. It's a BBC comedy and it's weird as, but we all used to watch it backstage before shows. It's really funny!

IHeartMattCorby: Do you think that you will be releasing an album any time soon?
Jacob_Butler: Hopefully. Just gotta sort some bits and pieces out and we'll see how it all goes!

punkchick33: Jacob are you happy with where you got on Idol?
Jacob_Butler: Yeah, it could have been a lot worse.

blake111: What are you gonna call your album?
Jacob_Butler: At the moment, it's tentatively titled, For All the Wrong Reasons. I'm not sure whether it will be released under a band name or under my own name either, we'll have to wait and see.

x0_bibi_0x: Is there anything you wish you could’ve done differently?
Jacob_Butler: No, I'd do it all the same. Maybe I wouldn't worry as much. But that's pretty hard not to do. We all worry!

Jessimischa: Did you plan to leave the way you did? Because that was so kind and humble - the best exit anyone has done.
Jacob_Butler: When I was evicted from the X Factor a couple of years ago, I didn't leave on great terms and I regretted that later on. I wanted to go out with a smile on my face and my head held high. That was for my Mum, more than anybody. She asked me to leave with a smile on my face and said, "It will all be cool." So that was for Mum.

Supahsabz: Whose advice during Idol have you taken aboard the most?
Jacob_Butler: A friend of mine would always tell me that when I went on stage to always pretend I was the headline act, no matter what position I went on. First, last, I was the headline. That helped me get to a place where I performed better.

Donnaandnikki: How do you prepare yourself for an eviction night? Do you go onstage thinking the best or telling yourself you are going to leave?
Jacob_Butler: We always go on stage thinking the best... that's all you can do. I actually enjoy Monday nights until they start reading the names! I love the packages and performances and all that sort of stuff. But that's an inevitable part of the show.

footloose101: Jacob, what advice can you give me as I am going on Idol in three years time?
Jacob_Butler: Start eating your Weeties because you're going to need a LOT of energy! I don't know how people like Guy and Damien made it through all the way, because it's so draining!

Jacob_Butler: Hey guys, Just want to say thanks again for all your love and support. It's been a fantastic trip and I'm glad you could all be part of it. Much love and thanks again, JB. X
