About Holly Weinert
In her audition, Mildura's Holly Weinert made a big impact on three of the judges – but it took a little more to convince Dicko. "I was so nervous and when they let me in I was like a stunned mullet!" she confesses.
The self-professed rock chick further proved herself further at the Top 100 stage, harnessing, she says, her "patience, adaptability and personality" to get her through. It was the brilliant interperatation of "Easy", a hit for both The Commodores and Faith No More, that won the approval of the Australian Idol audience.
"I could swear!" said an excited Holly upon hearing she'd made it, after spectacularly jumping into Brianna's arms – and falling to the floor. Luckily for producers she held her tongue.
A musician and bar tender, Holly was joined in the Top 24 by friend Jesse Curran, who often sings at the pub Holly works in. 20-year-old Holly loves her boyfriend Simon, her dog, "spag bol" and is a film buff with too many favourites to name. Her favourite song is "Love Cats" by The Cure and says she can't wait for Rock Night in the competition.
Q&A with Holly
Q: I first realised I wanted to become a professional singer when…
I was about six years old, I just decided it'd be the best thing. My first concert was George from Play School! I bought an "I Saw George" shirt and wore it EVERYWHERE.Q: What is your favourite genre of music? Please tell us why you love that particular style.
Rock and Blues. It's just fun!Q: Which previous finalist do you find most inspiring and why?
Bobby Flynn. Pure originality.Q: Have you auditioned for a previous series of Australian Idol? If so, how far did you progress? What motivated you to audition this year?
Nope. My boyfriend Simon motivated me to audition.
Q: Describe your feeling at your first audition?
Body constricting fear! I as so nervous and when they let me in I was like a stunned mullet!
Q: Obviously, it's important to have a strong voice, but what other aspects give a performer 'star quality'?
I think judging from this week, patience, adaptability and personality are really important aspects of 'star quality.'
Q: Idol shows often follow a special theme like Disco, Rock or Big Band. What would your 'dream theme' be and why?
Rock probably, 'cause that's what I usually do.
Q: What would you call your debut album?
"Insomnia" (he, he, jokes) Depends on the feeling I get while recording it.
