Suzie Q's help has not helped, contestants voices were BAD

Come on judges, Suzie Q may have helped them with their performances but she has also screwed with their voices. Not a one has sung a whole song in tune as they're trying to growl through their notes to emulate the great Q. Well emulate they have, cause she sounded awful singing Devil Gate Drive. I don't think anyone who sings as badly or as damaged as her should be teaching them vocal grunt. It is not an easy thing to learn, let alone teach, without doing damage to the vocal folds. Anyone heard of nodules? Even Sabrina (who has a wicked voice, but I can't like her) was totally out of tune because she talked/groaned through it (on Suzie Q's advice) WRONG< WRONG< WRONG.
The only one's who haven't listened to her advice fully are the two who Suzie hasn't had glowing comments about. Scott and Casey, Nice Shirt... What kind of advice is that?
Rock night is too early in the season, especially when so many of the singers don't even seem to know their comfort zone yet.
Anyways, that's my say. Save those voices kids, having nodules laser removed from your vocal folds takes at least 6 months to be able to sing again and it bloody hurts when you get them all over again because you didn't get the physio and vocal coaching to learn how to belt properly.
Do I sound like I've been there, done that?

Can't say I liked the songs or the way they sang them either.

Some good points, but vocally rock is about getting gritty and dirty. I think it was interesting.
I used to work with a metal band ( styling not singing ) and the vocalist used to have weekly operatic singing lessons - arpegios, breathing etc, aimed to keep his vocal chords nodule free. I guees when rock is sung well, it is quite an art.

My point exactly, unless you have trained your voice for belting and growling, you will damage it. But her performance tips were spot on

Im afraid I have to disagree (and Im surprising myself, by saying this). I actually think they ALL sang very well. As a matter of fact, I think this is the best group of contestants they have ever had on Australian Idol.
Normally, most of the contestants sound pitchy and cant hit notes....very cringworthy.
But this year, they are all singing in tune and on pitch and have all got good voices.....Rock night from every other year has been awful (cept for a handful of good performances)...but this time, I think they all picked great songs....I was entertained all night......I liked most of the songs sung tonight.
I was especially surprised by Stan....I love Metallica and I really didnt think he would be able to pull that one off...but kudos to you, Stan.....you surprised me...and perhaps I am now a fan of yours.
I have only been voting for Nathan...but tonight I voted for Nathan, Stan and Hayley.

I thought Suzie was one of the best mentor's they've ever had, but yeah maybe that's because of the performing tips, not the singing tips. I liked most of the performances though. I did think Stan sounded a little bit like he was yelling rather than singing at one stage - but maybe i was expecting too much because he is one of my favourites

I liked their song choices but they were all over the place, pitchy and some of those held notes could have cracked cement . Just out of tune, but enough to tilt your head, lift your shoulder and wince as only a slightly bad note can make you do. And please, all you kids with the big voices, STOP holding and screaching those long, high notes. I'm getting a crick in my neck.

Stan was AWESOME!!!!! The contestants are really good this year! Have watched the show since it started, back in 2003! And am a HUGE Guy Sebastian fan!! The show since Guy was a little disappointing, but I still love the show!! This year has been great so far!! Let's give them a chance!!

I loved tonight's show!
i thought Suzie mentored them so well and we saw a side of the Idol's that we hadn't seen yet!
I even have a soft spot for the ones which i weren't too keen on....
i thought Toby was Great tonight, brilliant song choice!!
and Stan-the-Man....WOW!
Loved it!!!

I disagree. I think that Suzie Q helped to loosen them up and show them what they can do. Now that Rock Night's over, they don't need to carry on grunting and growling (unless they want to) but hopefully they'll retain the ability to commit to a performance, to let the music take them over and to not be too self-conscious.

i have to disagree, i noticed a huge improvement in the performances tonight, even vocally for some after the workshop with suzi
the only contested i believe it had the reverse effect on, was sabrina, who kind of sounded like a dying cat.
she has a great voice, but wrong song, wrong genre.

OMG... another loooong wind, anyway, after getting my eyes in focus.Suzie Q goes a loooong way back,as anyone can see.Half the contestants, were but a twinkle in her eye when they were even born.
But the lady, with her history in music and talent, would be somethng of a great mentor to the contestants, either way!
But in the end it is up to them, great mentors can't always be there for them.
Lets see what the contestants are really made of.......Still early days!!!!!

Suzie Q why did they pick you,
Rock is rock, not singing with the flu.
Pushing boundaries so hard
That poor Sabrina got cut in two.
Oh what fate you create Suzie Q Suzie Q.
Suzie Q why did they pick you,
Sexy screeching and shouting was all you do.
Pressing buttons in their heads,
That poor Stan staggered on a few.
Oh what fate you create Suzie Q Suzie Q.
Suzie Q why did they pick you,
Yes music is passionate and quite blind for a few.
Paying compliments out of pity,
Is not what a judge should do.
Oh what fate you create Suzie Q Suzie Q.
Suzie Q why did they pick you,
Rock is anything that stands apart and free
Its melodic like bohemian rhapsody.
It?s a giant multifaceted tree.
Oh what fate you create Suzie Q Suzie Q.
Suzie Q why did they pick you,
Rocks not just singing with a gravely voice.
Oh Suzie Q had it been my choice.
Rock week would have been something too rejoice
Oh what fate you create Suzie Q Suzie Q.
