Tarisai is the best idol ever This is courtesy of Adriam

I remember the first time I heard Tarisai.
I was walking past the TV and my family were watching Australian Idol. "Not that rubbish", I told them, referring to just how many awful unlistenable singers they had had over the years. "Even the winners aren't often very listenable", was my opinion. To be quite honest, I don't think that the best singer has ever won the competition, with the possible exception of Damien Leith.
Then I heard it.
I swear it was like I was hearing angels flap their wings or the heavenly chorus.
"Who on earth is that?"
My family told me that Australian Idol had got a lot better, and that she was just one of the top 8 that year. Her name was Tarisai Vushe, who, like Damien Leith, wasn't even born in Australia.
Her sound was just magical. It wasn't the quality of the others in the show. Not even Jessica Mauboy or Cosima de Vito or Shannon Noll were even in this league. This was better than Triple J's unearthed quality (which in itself is far better than Australian Idol in finding talent). This was just incredible.
It reminded me of when I first heard Mariah Carey. One of the most beautiful voices I had ever heard. And that is on Australian Idol? Has the quality gone up that much?
Actually, no, it hadn't. While Matt Corby wasn't too bad, the others weren't very good at all, if anything worse than what was on offer in previous years. The winner was, once again, a terrible performer.
Tarisai wasn't just good that one night, she was good every night. True, it varied a bit, from absolutely heavenly down to just generally great.
The only thing I can think is that they were jealous at her natural talent. While all of the others, not just in her season, but in any season, were just ordinary everyday reasonable singers, she was a superstar, and they kept trying to bring her down. First she was too religious, then she was in some Hillsong Church affiliate trying to rig votes and finally she was supposedly fake. Fake what? Fake emotions? Faking trying to improve? Sorry, but you can't improve on perfect.
Perhaps Tarisai would have done better if she had been on American Idol, where she would have been competing with others who had a chance of an international career, and where backstabbing and jealousy don't run rife, or where being the little guy who improves a bit isn't regarded as better than someone who is just simply amazing.
Tarisai is the best singer ever to appear on Idol, hands down. There will never be one that competes.
In the next couple of weeks, her debut single comes out. I for one am going to buy it the first day it is released. Sometime early next year, her debut album will come out.
True, they might not be big hits in Australia, although I can bet that they will be huge in her home of Zimbabwe and in neighbouring South Africa. I can also bet that she will be big in America.
One day, perhaps, the shameful acts to deface her good name will be undone and people can listen to and enjoy the beautiful voice of Tarisai and the wonderful and amazing person behind it.
I do hope that she is successful, as she deserves it, but if not, I will at least enjoy her music. It brings a smile to listen to it, and is incredibly uplifting.
If Idol has fallen, it is because of how badly they treated this wonderful, amazing singer, who really didn't deserve what happened to her. In time, I hope that the Australian public can realise her for the little battler that she is, up against jealousy and anger at her talent. Just like Kylie Minogue, who was once hated by the Australian public, or Jelena Dokic, I think that she will come back, and we will all enjoy her amazing talent.
I do encourage everyone to buy her album and single and listen to it, whether you had heard her music before or not. You won't be disappointed.
