After a look at last night's style controversies – from Natalie's dress to Matt's hair – Australia was able to see Kyle transform from judge to swing performer on stage. His performance of "Just A Gigolo" happened during an ad break last night after Marcia commented that Jazz hating Kyle didn't know how great it felt to sing with a Big Band. Afterwards the contestants turned judges and Matt said he was impressed with Mr Sandilands' effort. Natalie, however, told him that while he looked fine off-camera, on TV he looked "fat". [For more on that see tonight's blog]
Next up was a look at the NSW finals of the My Mum Rocks competition, judged by Kyle and Paulini. With such a high standard they ended up sending through two finalists – Kate Lush and Lisa Hunt. The winner, who will perform at the final at the Sydney Opera House, will be announced on next week's show.
The first ever Australian Idol Guy Sebastian performed a brilliant medley from his new offering The Memphis Album. He even got the contestants to join in on "Knock On Wood" when he joined them mid-song, and later Marcia when he popped over to the judge's table. The performance garnered a standing ovation from the audience.
The Idols themselves next hit the stage with The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There", in a very amusing performance that Marty almost turned into a comedy routine.
And then … it was time to see one of our Idols go. Natalie and Marty were first in line to hear their fate and Marty was told he was in the Bottom 2. Next were Carl and Matt – and it was Carl who joined Marty on the stage.
A very appreciative Marty thanked everyone he could think of that was involved with the show – and especially Idol HQ House Manager Sam for his breakfast smoothies – and performed "Light My Fire" as his last hurrah.
So then there were three. But which two of Carl, Matt and Natalie will make it to the Opera House?
As Dicko said with his trademark wit, "It's harder to pick than a broken nose."
